Hello Everyone,
I am pleased to announce that I have just finished a new release of Ewrt,
our open-source firmware distribution for Linksys WRT-based routers
integrating the NoCatSplash captive portal.
I am calling this release ewrt-0.4, as it now adds support for all
WRT54G/GS version 4 routers and the WRT54GL which are now becoming
available. We now can build firmeware for all WRT devices except the
latest version 5's, which have moved to the vxWorks OS. Please do not buy
these devices if you are a strong Open Source supporter. This was done
primarily by taking our original changesets (based upon the Linksys 3.01.3
codebase) and porting the code onto the latest WRT54GSv4 code from
Linksys.
This also means we now gain, in addition to added support for all of these
routers: the latest security updates, wireless driver updates, and
Internationalization of the web interface. In addition, we provide a
highly modified and developed version of NoCatSplash which is much
improved against all sorts of buffer overflows, malformed HTTP requests,
and the like, as compared with the code available from any other source
today.
Important new features have been added to NoCatSplash as well, including
the ability to whitelist a given set of MAC addresses to be passed through
without authentication, for example servers or private machines which
should not need access control, or when you have anouther router running
it's own portal behind this one on your LAN. We have also added some
things to the native web interface to make it easier to setup and control
the NoCatSplash captive portal.
I hope you all enjoy this new release, and please don't hesitate to send
comments, bug reports, etc. to our developer's list at:
